With opening art weekend under my belt, something on the art tip in short order.
For the time being, though, just a last minute announcement (via email from Sharkforum's David Roth).
It's... "Strictly Alternative," a panel discussion tomorrow evening at the Chicago Cultural Center. Naturally, admission is free.
The Hyde Park Art Center's Allison Peters will lead an all-star panel featuring the Infamous Bad at Sports Troika, David Roth and the Notorious Wesley Kimler (representing the Sharks), and Lumpen–Select–Version czar Ed Marszewski.
Mainstream media is rarely the place to find out what's really happening in Chicago's art world. Instead, there are several new alternatives that probe and stimulate, revealing and challenging the conventional wisdom and the status quo.
Artists and cultural producers discuss how their podcasts, forums, blogs and festivals are bringing new intimacy and openness to Chicago's art scene.
The discussion is slated to run from 6:00–7:30 in the pm. Even if I attend, I can't see myself making it down there before 6:30 myself, but I'd imagine someone might be forward-thinking enough to record the proceedings.
They have the technology, after all.
