'Now, I'm going to haul ass to Lollapalooza...'

...where it'll be hot, hot, hot.

Maybe, unlike last weekend, the hipsters will opt to leave the denim at home.

(Posting will remain light.)

So, how was it? The New York Times had Jon Pareles do a sort of mini-blog about it, but it was kind of lame.

The Pixies, as you may have heard, will be playing the Newport Folk Festival (excuse me, the Dunkin' Donuts Newport Folk Festival. Strange times.

I'll have a full post on it, but here's the short and sweet of it: ...Trail of Dead rocked (and knocked their shit around), Primus rocked (with huge inflatable ducks), Pixies rocked (very efficiently), Dinosaur Jr. rocked (very loudly). And Perry Farrell is an insufferable goof. And Beatle Bob made the scene.

(Don't let the critics sell you any of this bullshit about "sound bleed," either. The sound system was shockingly phenomenal, and overlap was generally not to be found within decent sightlines of the stages.)

I recall someone (Alan Lomax?) once recounting the sight of Pete Seeger running for the exits—hands over his ears—as Dylan plugged in back in '65.

I wonder what those guys would think of, uhh... "Turbo Folk."

I do hope you avail yourself of the opportunity to see them, though. An acoustic set could be as refreshing as an iced blended coffee beverage on a hot summer day.

Oh, and a belated happy anniversary to you.

Thanks. I won't be going to see the Pixies, though. I avoid the Folk Festival as much as possible. The most annoying crowd in the world, and the traffic getting on and off the island is just unbelievable, even for Newport in the summer. If I had a boat, I'd cruise over and listen from on the water, as many others do, but the time when I could stand spending a day there is long gone.
