Nothing to See Here

Since my jaunts through the River North and West Loop openings at the end of October, my little gallery run-down has been languishing, unfinished, in hard drive limbo. By the time I get around to posting it, all the exhibits I highlight are bound to be down. My excuses for this are many and varied, begining with this, not to mention this and this.

Further excuses can be furnished upon request (email above).

Those looking for some guidance on their gallery outings, then, would be wise to visit Fresh Paint, where Cynthia has choked back the shrill lefty hate-speech long enough to post two of three promised run-downs from the districts, here and here.

If that don't cut it, well... I hear Chicagoist is looking for Fine Arts contributors [via Gapers Block]...

As for me, the Art will have to wait for now. Tonight's all about the Rock:

cease to resist, giving my goodbye
drive my car into the ocean
you'll think i'm dead, but i sail away
on a wave of mutilation
a wave
wave
i've kissed mermaids, rode the el niño
walked the sand with the crustaceans
could find my way to mariana
on a wave of mutilation,
wave of mutilation
wave of mutilation
wave
wave of mutilation
wave

Urge Overkill opens. Should be alright.

You bastard. Full report, please. I'm appalled that I never saw them back in the day - though I did catch their fellow 4AD faves, Throwing Muses, several times (including a show with Richard Thompson at Brown Alumni Hall before they had a record out.) Now I'm too old - crowded places and young people scare me.

Yo man! enough with the excuses! Make with the art already! Seriously, how come I've never seen any of your artwork/painting on this blog? Huh? Huh? Sorry for the belligerence, alcohol brings out my inner street fighter.

peace,

A report on the Pixies show could be as good as any art review. If I'm going to make anything in the studio, the day will always start with a little motorway to roswell. No fail transport.

Still processing, folks...

Sr. Sánchez: I'm a bit surprised they're only playing 2 shows in Boston (+ 1 in Amherst). Mission of Burma opens. My advice: get over your hebephobia and see if some tickets are available. Probably doubtful, but watch for them to add a date (they added a fifth here [ie, last night] well after the first four sold out).

Mr. Hicks: I'll get back to you. "Enough with the excuses" is probably right. Nonetheless, I've got little to share at the moment (cf previous excuses).

J McM: "Gouge Away" really gets my motor going.
